Spurs vs Brighton – 29th October

Supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion have historically been the target of homophobic chanting and abuse by fans of other teams due to the fact that Brighton has a large LGBT population.

The Football Association has highlighted this as an issue and written to every club in the top four divisions concerning this matter.

Like every club, Spurs have a strong following among the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and as the first LGBT supporters association set up in conjunction with a Premier League Club, we are Proud to be part of a club that fights discrimination on and off the pitch. We welcome the support we have received from our fellow Spurs fans since our launch and we would like you to extend that support and join us in welcoming Brighton to White Hart Lane.

Announcing our new Patron

We are delighted to announce that England and GB Hockey player, Olympian and Spurs fan, Helen Richardson-Walsh has agreed to become our Patron. 

“As a Proud Spurs fan I am delighted to become the Proud Lilywhites Patron. The work they have done so far in challenging homophobia in football is great and I look forward to being part of the growing LGBT fan group movement.”

Helen, a lifelong Spurs fan, became the youngest female hockey player to represent Great Britain at an Olympic Games in 2000. Since then she has played over 250 times for her country, winning numerous medals on the world stage and along the way picking up some highly prestigious personal accolades.

In 2012 Helen added an Olympic bronze medal to her collection meaning she can boast an impressive career by winning a medal in every major hockey tournament including a World Cup bronze, six European medals and three Commonwealth Games medals. 2009 was an excellent year for Helen being nominated for the World Player of the Year; she was included in the World All Stars Team and she won the UK Hockey Writers’ Player of the Year.

One of Helen’s most valued achievements has come away from the pitch; aged just 23 she battled back from a career threatening injury, which left her sidelined to two years and defying consultants who said she’d never play for GB again. Helen is currently recovery from double back surgery but still has Rio 2016 firmly in her sights.
